NOTICE: Effective 03/20/08, unfortunately, we will no longer accept out of state students. This change was decided upon due to recent problems involving Swift Driving Academy, the FBI and the Tennessee Department of Safety whereby the outcome is still uncertain. We believe in strictly complying with all state/federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures and believe this action to be appropriate for the immediate future.

Important Information For Those Who Don't Live In Tennessee Or Non-Resident Aliens

All students attending classes from states other than Tennessee will be required to obtain a Tennessee driver's license. Tennessee will allow students to change their current license over to Tennessee while you are attending our school. We'll make it easier by helping you through the process. Under Tennessee's law you must keep your license for 30 days before you can obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver's License). Students needing to obtain a Tennessee license need to be at the school on Friday by 4pm before starting class the following Monday. This will allow us time to get your license changed and begin the waiting period. You should be able to get your CDL  upon completion of the program.

Many students ask if the Tennessee CDL will switch back to their home state upon returning home. The answer is yes. Most states will require you to take a written exam again before getting the new CDL with Hazardous Materials. The exam is set by the Federal Government and you will have no trouble in passing. This exam will be the same one that you have already taken.

It is a good idea to contact the agency that issues driver's licenses in your state and get the specific rules as things do change from time to time. Explain to them that you are going to train and get a CDL in Tennessee and would like to know what to do when you get home to acquire your CDL. This will help you in moving forward quickly to your new job and paycheck.
